(YRG) specializes in the visual arts of Africa and the African Diaspora. A private gallery, YRG offers a wide range of African fine art, including sculpture, textiles, metalwork and pottery. Our gallery’s mission is to share the detailed ethnographic knowledge gained in the field with our clientele as a means to develop their understanding of African art and culture. YRG has developed and participated in numerous national exhibitions of African Art. We believe that authenticity is integral to building a successful collection, and we have enabled our clients to develop important collections.
Paulette Young, the director of the gallery, is a cultural anthropologist and an independent scholar in the creative arts of Africa and the African Diaspora. Young received her Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research focused on women, concepts of beauty and the fine arts of Africa and the Diaspora. She has worked with museums, corporate clients and cultural institutions and she has provided research and creative consultation to a diverse group of collectors. Young has taught at Columbia University and lectured at institutions in Africa, Asia and Europe.
Eric Robertson, the gallery’s advisor, is known internationally for his extensive knowledge of African art. With over 35 years of experience in the field of African art, Robertson has been a senior vettor for authenticity at many international tribal art shows and he was been a frequent lecturer and consultant on African art and the Diaspora, including African American artists. He has served as an advisor to several cultural institutions, universities, and private collections.
